Space Commentary on…Space Commentary

This article from Columbia Journalism Review–the job of which is to comment on journalism, so this article is entirely within their purview–discusses the anti-Obama rhetoric espoused by the Fox News people regarding the space program. While I’m the first to tell you there are problems with the new plan, you at least have to give credit where credit is due. For example, even if the retirement of the Space Shuttle leaves us at the mercy of the Russians (the implication is that they will leave our astronauts stranded in space at the slightest political trouble, which is ridiculous, at the very least because I don’t think there’s much they can do for a ship that’s already docked to the space station), the decision to retire the fleet lies with Bush, not Obama. The plan is worthy of debate, but at least be truthful about it. It makes me think that some of the Republicans who are against the new plan are fighting all the right battles for all the wrong reasons.
